Objective Description

Under the Ellicott City Safe and Sound plan, the County is increasing the frequency of inspection and debris by inspecting certain waterways within 3 business days after every major weather event and committing to removing any debris found within 14 business days of inspection. Inspected stream locations include Autumn Hills, Bonnie Branch, Hudson Branch, Little Patuxent at Allview, Little Plumtree Branch, New Cut, Plumtree Branch, and Race Road. Previously, waterways were inspected on a quarterly or semi-annual basis.

Trend Analysis

Under the new policy of stream debris removal, major weather events trigger stream inspection and debris removal. During each event, all 55 sites have been inspected within 3 days and cleared within 14 days. A total of 61 cubic yards of debris have been removed, with a majority of the debris consisting of branches, logs and stumps.

Strategies

  • Inspect certain waterways within 3 business days after every major weather event.
