Strong and Prosperous Businesses

Increase business community client participation by 20% by 2025

1,784

FY20 Actual

Objective Description

The Howard County Economic Development Authority (HCEDA) hosts a wide range of networking events through its integration with the MCE and Howard Tech Council (HTC) which foster business community collaboration. The Howard Tech Council (HTC) serves as the epicenter of the local technology community in order to provide programming which supports engagement, collaboration, learning, and leadership. HCEDA promotes collaboration through networking events, speaker series, as well as affinity groups and roundtables -- all of which tend to facilitate and increase innovation opportunities and business collisions.

Trend Analysis

Since FY 2016, there has been an upward trend in HCEDA and MIC client participation, which is projected to continue into FY 2020. Due to strategic outreach efforts, event attendance and community engagement on social media have grown through FY 2020. Direct introductions, which tactically link businesses with collaboration potential, have also doubled over the last year. Due to the downtime caused by the 2019 move of the Maryland Innovation Center to its new location at Columbia Gateway, event attendance was moderately impacted. However, due to greater intensity of activity outside of the downtime, attendance rates remained consistent.

Strategies

  • Lead with robust business retention & expansion (BRE).
  • Cultivate strategic business attraction opportunities.
  • Unleash the potential of innovation.
  • Prioritize research and messaging.
